Durham CROP Hunger Walk is seeking an Event Coordinator

The Durham CROP Hunger Walk coordinator works with a team of volunteers to organize an annual event/walk that is a fundraiser for Church World Service. Funds raised from the walk provide food and other resources for families in Durham and across the globe. The coordinator meets with the organizing team monthly from September through April, in addition to a summer planning retreat.

The coordinator works with the organizing team to:

  • line up corporate sponsors
  • plan awards recognition
  • plan t-shirt design, ordering, and distribution
  • equip team captains to recruit walkers through various forms of communication (phone calls, emails, recruiter “kick-off” rallies)
  • organize all logistics relating to CROP Walk day (venue, entertainment, rest stops, etc.)
  • publicize the walk
  • educate both recruiters and walkers about hunger and poverty around the world and in the local community
  • collect and distribute money raised from corporate sponsor donations and by walkers

 

Qualifications:

The coordinator will need to be:

  • organized
  • detail-oriented
  • self-motivated
  • able to work well with people
  • proficient at delegating
  • able to motivate others
  • able to communicate well
  • passionate about assisting people locally as well as internationally who are food insecure and/or malnourished

Experience in working with volunteers and event planning is highly recommended.

 

Estimated time commitment:

  •  2-4 hours/month April through August
  • 10-15 hours/month, September through December
  • 10-12 hours/week, January through March

 

Compensation:

A stipend of up to 5% of the earnings of the previous year’s Durham CROP Hunger Walk is available (earnings were ~$159,000 in 2021 and ~$190,000 in 2022).

The successful applicant(s) will work with the current coordinator through the Spring 2023 Durham CROP Hunger Walk and then take over coordinating the 2024 event.
